Why plant trees?

Trees are incredibly important to the wellbeing of the entire planet.

We use all sorts of things which are made from trees, such as rubber, cork, paper and wood - not to mention the food we get from trees like fruit and nuts. And many medicines come from trees too.

Without trees, all sorts of creatures, from the smallest insects to birds like cuckoos and mammals like squirrels wouldn't have anything to eat.

And trees are like the lungs of the planet. They breathe in harmful gases and breathe out oxygen which makes our air cleaner. Many people think that trees slow down global warming and they also absorb sound and reduce noise pollution, as well as stopping the rain washing away the soil.

We have so much to thank trees for, it's no wonder that people have celebrated them for thousands of years. How could you celebrate trees?.
