Woodland management for biodiversity

This self-study course has been designed to give you foundation knowledge of woodland habitat management in the UK, so if you are considering working in conservation/reserve management within woodlands sector this course will be an ideal starting point. The course is also suitable for those wanting to work as ecological consultants because consultants frequently produce management plans and give advice on enhancing sites for wildlife.

The course comprises of 10 modules which you can work through in your own time, with additional reading to consolidate your learning.

By the end of the course you will:

Have an awareness of reasons for habitat management, understand the need for management, the need for a management plan, the importance of site surveying and data collection prior to management, the issues encountered in woodlands, an understanding of management of woodlands for a range of species including plants, birds, dormice, bats and invertebrates, why monitoring is important as well as a grounding on writing a management plan. You will gain a wider knowledge of the subject that will help equip you for jobs in the conservation and ecology sectors.
