As part of Rail Roots—an initiative led by The Tree Council in partnership with Chiltern Railways—we’ve launched a series of workshops focused on orchard upskilling at multiple national rail network stations.
The first workshops in the series were held at Gerrards Cross Station, Stoke Mandeville Garden, and Bearbrook Community Orchard. These workshops included the participation of our dedicated volunteers from Ground Control, Premier Miton, Kiwa, Just Displays, Aylesbury Station Garden Adoption Group, Fairhive Housing Association, and St Peter’s Community Garden.
Participants expanded their knowledge on topics such as fruit tree selection, planting techniques, successful tree establishment, and propagation methods like grafting and layering. They also got hands-on experience with fruit tree pruning, practicing their new skills by the end of the session.
Looking ahead, the final workshop in this series will take place this week at Bearbrook Combined Schools in Aylesbury.
