Richard Pollard

National School Programme Manager

I love my job at the Tree Council! It allows me to share my experience in developing outreach environmental education programmes, from my time teaching Geography as a secondary teacher, to establishing Green Schools whilst heading up Groundwork South’s Learning Services. It also gives me an opportunity to share my experience at delivering national campaigns, which I really enjoyed in my most recent role as Kew Garden’s Grow Wild engagement manager for England.

I get to develop exciting new national education programmes like the Orchards for Schools and Young Tree Champions projects, and our schools campaign #ForceForNature, inspiring teachers, children and parents across Britain to connect and learn how to unlock the immense power of trees.

Richard says about trees:

‘’Trees have always been a part of my life, I see them as a crucial part of my life support system. Trees have given me and my family so much, so I feel compelled to protect and give back in whatever way I can.’’

Richard’s favourite tree:

“It has to be the silver birch – they’re mesmerising. They appear so delicate and fragile, yet they are strong and resilient. Plus, I fell out of one when I was young – some things you never forget!’’
