Celebrating National Tree Week with our awesome corporate partners

The Tree Council

December 7, 2021

This National Tree Week, it has never been more important to plant for our future. As we face the ongoing climate and nature crises, we need to come together to plant and care for our trees and hedgerows, which are some of the most powerful tools we have to protect our planet. At The Tree Council, we believe in working together for the love of trees, uniting people and organisations to plant, protect and promote our treescapes. Together, we can make a difference!

That’s why we were so delighted to be joined by 50 amazing volunteers during National Tree Week to plant two new green corridors in Bicester, Oxfordshire. All of these volunteers came from corporate partner organisations, whose support throughout the year enables us to continue championing our trees and hedgerows. Together, we planted along a riverbank and a bridleway, creating connectivity for local wildlife as well as helping introduce all the other wonderful benefits that trees and hedgerows can bring, such as pollution mitigation and flood prevention. Species included hawthorn, blackthorn, white poplar, holly, oak and more in an incredible 183 metres of hedgerow. We also planted some rare black poplar trees – there are only 10,000 of these left in the UK, so it was great to be boosting their numbers.

This was a fantastic opportunity for our corporate partners to meet each other and for us to thank them for their amazing support and give them an insight into the world of trees! Many of those involved are part of our Jubilee Partners programme, which is bringing together green-hearted companies to plant in celebration of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Others support us with funding, advice and more.

A huge thank you to volunteers from Agrovista UK, Ascot Lloyd, Chiesi, Ezee Group International, HGH Consulting, Savills, Schroders Personal Wealth, Serious Tissues and Stuart Turner Ltd for braving the wintery weather with us on behalf of our planet, and thank you too to Network Rail, whose community planting fund made it possible for us to come together to #PlantForOurFuture.
