Huge thanks to team members from Fenwick, Believ, Heylo Housing, Kind&Co, Spar UK, Hayfin Capital, LaSalle and Ground Control who joined us for a day’s volunteering at Adhurst Community Allotments recently.
In National Tree Week 2022 Tree Council volunteers helped to plant a Miyawaki forest on this wildlife-abundant site in the heart of the South Downs National Park. On our return to the community allotments this September, our fab team helped with tree maintenance, site prep for the upcoming winter planting season, and surveying and monitoring the trees and hedgerows on site.
Some lucky volunteers even got to participate in those most autumnal of activities – collecting tree seeds and tree grafting, in order to support the community tree nursery on site.
Adhurst Estate Allotments covers an area of just over 12 acres and includes individual growing plots, Petersfield Community Garden, the Adhurst Community Orchard, wildlife hedgerows, wildflower areas, new tree plantations, a tree propagation area and a wildlife friendly river walk along the Ashford stream.
Although the site’s main function is to offer community allotments, the remainder is managed with wildlife and conservation in mind and provides several valuable natural habitats and gateway to the South Downs National Park.
