It’s May and the hawthorns are currently in bloom, a sure sign that summer is due to arrive. The ‘May blossom’ of hawthorn is associated with stories and rituals. Regarded as symbols of hope, their scent was thought to revive the spirit and drive off poisons, while wearing a sprig of hawthorn could protect you from lightning.
We asked our followers to share their pictures of hawthorns, of all species and varieties, that they have spotted recently. Thank you to everyone who joined in, you can see all the pictures by searching #HawthornsInBloom on social media.
