Farmers play a vital role in managing our iconic countryside and landscapes, including our trees and hedgerows. Tree planting offers many benefits to the environment including capturing carbon, enhancing biodiversity and helping to deliver on the UK’s net zero ambition.
The NFU launched the NFU tree strategy in July 2021. It sets out the opportunities and barriers of managing and integrating trees within the farmed environment and our key asks of government to ensure the right policies and incentives are in place. They have also gathered together useful information and links, as well as case studies, to help guide members interested in tree planting to the most appropriate schemes and funding.
