Help plant 3 million trees by 2030! Grant applications now open

The Tree Council

July 4, 2025

The Tree Council is helping National Highways plant 3 million trees by 2030 by gifting up to 600,000 to communities across England annually. The initiative demonstrates how low carbon initiatives can benefit both nature and communities.

The trees are being grown at Greenwood Plants, West Sussex; from British-sourced seed, and are 100% peat free and Plant Healthy certified. Following a successful year, delivering trees to 40 projects, we are excited to continue to support community groups, charities, heritage and wildlife sites in the coming years.

Unlike the other funding opportunities, this programme provides free UK grown trees – with applications invited for projects seeking to establish between 2,500 and 50,000 trees, in England only.

We are proud to present one of the incredible projects funded by The Tree Council, in partnership with National Highways and Greenwood Plants Ltd.

This spotlight features Yorkshire Wildlife Trust , a charity dedicated to conserving, protecting, and restoring wildlife across Yorkshire. Their project, BEACH Esk (Better Estuaries & Coastal Habitats), is making a lasting impact in the Lower Esk Catchment of the North York Moors National Park.

Through this initiative, the Trust is:

  • Enhancing estuary and coastal habitats
  • Creating new woodlands along watercourses
  • Incorporating hedgerows into agricultural landscapes
  • Identifying and mitigating pollution sources in the Whitby area

All grant options are accompanied by expert advice and support from The Tree Council, from application, to planting, to ensuring the trees are able to establish successfully.
