This pilot seeks to determine which interventions could encourage significant increases in tree planting on farmland which, if accelerated, could provide a cost-effective method of delivering more trees outside woodlands.
While any planting needs to be done in a way that ensures enough food is still produced, the purpose of agroforestry is to raise trees, crops and livestock together creating a system where all the components interact and benefit each other.
The pilot will assess farmer engagement, analyse return on investment and address the knowledge gap within the farming community and among landowners.
This pilot is led by Shropshire Council.
