Seeking to investigate methods of increasing urban tree cover, this pilot will assess the Miyawaki approach to establishing mini-woodlands in urban parks and green spaces. A number of trial plots will be monitored, with their efficacy and cost-efficiency compared to more standard planting approaches. It will consider each trial’s establishment, its development, density, biodiversity, survivability and impact on soil health.
This pilot will also investigate damage to and loss to urban trees from infrastructure activity, including underground utility and street engineering works, and consider potential improvements to the relationship between trees and utilities
This pilot is led by Kent County Council.
