The Trees and Woodland Strategy (TAWS) Toolkit is a step-by-step guide for Local Authorities and their stakeholders to develop and deliver a local tree strategy and harness the long-term benefits that trees can bring to local communities. It provides practical guidance, insightful case studies from ten Local Authorities around the country and an array of other useful resources.

Ensuring our treescapes flourish and are protected for the future.
Funded by Defra and co-created by The Tree Council, Fera Science, Forest Research, the Forestry Commission, Local Authorities and other stakeholders, the toolkit highlights how Local Authorities can draw on the current exceptional levels of Government funding for tree planting to enhance local communities.
Explore national funding opportunities
The Forestry Commission, Woodland Creation Partners and England’s Community Forests offer a range of grants for tree planting and woodland creation. The grants cover tree planting, planning, maintenance, and tree health. They are available for farmers, landowners, public bodies, local authorities and environmental groups. You can find out more on page 44 of the Toolkit.
The Tree Council also offers a range of grant opportunities for community planting or planting in schools.
