Plant hedgerows in your community with our grant funding

The Tree Council’s Close the Gap Community Hedge Fund can provide up to 100% grants for volunteer Tree Wardens and community groups in England to plant new hedgerows, hedgerow trees and gap up existing hedgerows in winter 2021/22. Planting can be in rural or urban areas on private or public land where the community will benefit.

Farmers/landowners can register their interest in a related Farmers Hedge Fund being run by our colleagues at the Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group (FWAG) for planting and gapping up agricultural hedgerows by emailing farmhedgerows@treecouncil.org.uk

The Community Hedge Fund is now closed. Successful applicants will be notified by the end of August. Planting will need to take place by 30 January 2022

Covid Restrictions – We cannot have certainty whether social distancing rules will be in place for next winter tree planting season. However, we are still keen to encourage groups to develop hedgerow planting projects, working in small groups in their communities. So please don’t let Covid-19 stop you telling us about your fantastic hedge planting projects. We would love you to apply!

Close the Gap is funded by the government’s Green Recovery Challenge Fund. The fund is being delivered by The National Lottery Heritage Fund in partnership with Natural England and the Environment Agency.
