Free guided walk around a 22-acre ancient semi-natural woodland designated as a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation (SINC).
Trees include oak, ash, hazel, alder, yew, beech, the less common small-leaved lime and the rare wild service. Shrubs include spindle and guelder rose. We expect to see ancient woodland indicator plants, including the distinctive butcher’s broom and a variety of spring flowers. Hermitage Stream runs through the wood and hart’s tongue fern is prolific in this damper habitat. The wood is home to badgers, foxes and a variety of birds.
