Syston Trees 3

Recommended walk

Map provided. The cemetery is open from 0900 to 2000 in summer and 0900 to 1630 in winter. Consider street parking if you will not finish on time as the gates are locked at night. This walk passes through Thurmaston, Syston, Queniborough and Barkby. There is a long section on the outskirts of Syston that crosses arable fields on recognised footpaths but they can be very muddy. There are stiles. Some of the fields have cows in them. Given the length of this walk, and the challenges it faces, it is recommended for stout footwear and experienced walkers. Expect to see oak, fir, willow, pine, cherry blossom, yew and in Watermead Park, waterfowl, an assault on the senses in Central park and the Peace Garden, and many wonderful trees in the town. The walk passes at least four pubs to stop and refresh oneself in.
