Tree-mendous schools raise money for The Tree Council

The Tree Council

June 18, 2020

We were delighted to receive generous donations in March and April this year from the students of three schools around the UK: St Mark’s CE Primary School in Kent, Shoreham Academy in West Sussex and Roehampton Hospital School in London.

The House Captains at St Mark’s School raised £375.90 at their annual Charity Fair using brightly decorated stalls and challenging games. The pupils talked about the importance of educating people about both planting and caring for trees.

The young people at Roehampton Hospital School embarked on an enterprise activity, ‘Protect, Restore and Fund’. They chose trees and The Tree Council as their focus. In preparation for their Christmas Fair pupils made, decorated and sold natural fibre items at their seasonal stalls to friends, family and visitors. They raised £153.00 which they sent directly to The Tree Council.

Jim Coupe, Principal of Shoreham Academy wrote to us with a cheque for £1000.76 raised by pupils and staff to support the work of The Tree Council.

Our CEO Sara Lom wrote to all three schools to thank them and explain that these funds will support tree planting, essential practical science & research and help to support our volunteer Tree Wardens amongst other things. We also let them know about our Branching Out Fund which provides grants to schools to plant trees, hedgerows and orchards in their school grounds.
