About the network
The Sutton Tree Warden Network is coordinated by the Local Authority. We meet weekly on Tuesdays (10am-12pm) and two Saturdays a month (10am-12pm). We work in parks and greenspaces across the borough of Sutton, carrying out tree planting and tree maintenance. We work with many Friends groups to help improve their greenspaces.
Over the last few years we have planted thousands of trees. We have created 7 native hedgerows over 6 sites, planted orchards and standard trees, and have pruned and mulched and cared for a great variety of trees. We have thinned dense woodland blocks, created new habitat for white-letter hairstreak butterflies by planting Elm and new habitat for brown hairstreak butterflies by coppicing old blackthorn.
We are a friendly group, all are welcome. There are lots of opportunities to learn. We are working to become ‘hedge champions’, and have offered training in leadership skills, tree health, orchard pruning and more.
