About the network
Southend Tree Wardens work in partnership with Southend Council to look after our wide range of trees.
They are local tree champions who care for, nurture and protect our trees by:
- Planning and organising tree planting, maintenance and watering
- Pruning and caring for orchard trees
- Managing ancient woodland through traditional techniques to increase biodiversity and produce sustainable woodland products
- Propagating and growing trees from seed
- Surveying trees and wildlife
- Helping with local events
- Working with and educating Junior Tree Wardens and the next generation of tree champions
With an ambitious goal of increasing our canopy cover from 13 to 15% by 2050 there has never been a better time to get involved in helping our trees thrive.
To join, you do not need any experience, skills or qualifications and there is no minimum time commitment. We will provide training and equipment for all new volunteers, and there will be regular meetings, newsletters and seminars to keep you up to date with what The Wardens are up to so you can volunteer however and whenever suits you.
