SUMMARY:Woodland Working day - coppicing in Horsley Woods
DESCRIPTION:As part of National Tree Week and celebrating it’s 50th year we are running community volunteer tree events for the whole 9 days.\n\n\n\n\nWe will be coppicing with hand tools (cutting hazel stools with pruning saws and loppers) and sorting and stacking the material ready to be used for making sustainable woodland products such as charcoal\, stakes for hedge laying and fencing etc. \nDo wear weather appropriate clothes\, layers are good as we can get warm when we work even if it is cool. Waterproofs if necessary and sturdy footwear is essential. Something to sit on (plastic sheet\, sit mat\, etc). please bring work gloves if you have any. \nPlease bring plenty of water to drink\, a packed lunch and a flask if you wish. \nLiving Woods facilitators will bring necessary tools and provide guidance and advice.

SUMMARY:Willow coppicing day in Haydon Bridge
DESCRIPTION:As part of National Tree Week and celebrating it’s 50th year we are running community volunteer tree events for the whole 9 days.\nThis is a patch of willow on a farm in Haydon Bridge\, we manage the willow by pollarding it annually with hand tools. \nThe main willows are early biomass varieties\, so they grow fast and also produce nice straight stems for weaving when cut regularly. We often see scarlet elf cup here – one of the first fungi of the year. \nDo wear weather appropriate clothes\, layers are good as we can get warm when we work even if it is cool. Waterproofs if necessary and sturdy footwear is essential. Something to sit on (plastic sheet\, sit mat\, etc). please bring work gloves if you have any. \nPlease bring plenty of water to drink\, a packed lunch and a flask if you wish. \nLiving Woods facilitators will bring necessary tools and provide guidance and advice. \nMore details upon booking.
