You’ve probably seen pied wagtails darting around car parks, especially those near fast food places where they can find plenty of scraps. However, you might be surprised to see a flock of them gathering at a train station, nestled among the trees in the car park.
Jon Stokes, our Director of Trees, Science & Research was on his way back home when he stopped in Network Rail’s Petersfield Station car park to witness a magnificent sight of pied wagtails gathering in the trees. The video from the moment has gained a mass of engagement across our social media channels, with people all over the world joining in with the conversation to marvel at a sight they have never seen before.
The video shows just how important urban trees can be for our wildlife. Birds and many other species are facing a decline in numbers, so that’s why it is important more than ever that we continue to plant and care for our trees.
