Tree Council Jubilee Tree:
This is one of The Tree Council’s 60 educational tree planting schemes with children that were inspired by the Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Each tree, provided by The Tree Council, was chosen and planted by volunteers in the community.
Type of tree:
Malus Katy
Villiers High School

Students at Villiers High School in Southall, West London, planted their Jubilee Diamond Tree on the edge of the playing field. The chosen tree, an apple variety, Malus ‘Katy’, has red fruit in September so students should get to enjoy them.

The special tree planting kicked off a larger, year-long project to enhance the school environment. The intention was for all students to do something positive for the school. This included planting a fruit hedge, wild flowers and a herb garden. Other options ranged from doing a litter pick or repainting a chill-out space, to volunteering to teach primary schoolchildren about the environment.
