Young Tree Champions ambassadors lead the way at The Big Bang Fair 2025

The Tree Council

June 20, 2025

The Tree Council’s National Schools Programme team engaged thousands of young people at The Big Bang Fair for another successful year.

It is the UK’s biggest celebration of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) careers for young people and took place this year between 17 and 19 June 2025 at The NEC in Birmingham.

Our inspirational Young Tree Champion ambassadors and Regional Lead team helped create a spectacular woodland glade, which offered young people a hands-on exploration of the critical role the natural world plays in our lives and how it can be central to future career opportunities.

The stand was centred around trees and the range of careers within the environment sector.

“Big Bang is always so full on, but at the same time it has been the best three days and a reminder of why we inspire the imaginations of so many children. Enabling them to explore who they are, and the important role their actions and career will have in shaping the future of our planet.” – Richard Pollard, Head of National Schools Programme

Visitors to the woodland glade were invited to take part in the PlantWave, a device that converts a plant’s electrical conductivity into mesmerising sound. They also took part in a tree-related careers photo booth, leaving a messages of hope on the ‘Message Tree’, and sowing their own acorn to take home and nurture into an oak sapling.

The Young Tree Champions programme supports schools across the UK to embark on impactful nature-based projects that connect pupils and teachers to trees and nature, helping them to develop the knowledge, skills and tools they need to speak up to protect trees and our planet.
