Date: Saturday 22nd November
Time : 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM
This art class invites you to step outside, look closely, and discover the beauty and variety of trees through drawing. Working outdoors in Gosforth Central Park, you’ll sketch directly from life — observing shapes, textures, and differences — before returning to the HUT to develop your studies further.
Led by artist and tutor Charlotte Johnston, who has taught at the National Gallery, Tate Galleries, the British Museum and the V&A, this class is a wonderful opportunity to learn from an experienced teacher with a passion for observational drawing and expressive mark making.
WHAT YOU’LL LEARN:
Observational Drawing – Take time to look carefully and draw from life, exploring form, texture and shape. Build confidence, patience, and curiosity through the challenge of drawing outdoors.
Exploring Materials – Experiment with ink, coloured pencils, pastels, charcoal, and collaged paper to bring energy and expression to your work. You’ll discover which materials best suit your style and help you capture the spirit of what you see.
Composition & Perspective – Trees make perfect subjects for exploring scale, texture, and perspective. You’ll create a series of lively sketches before developing a final drawing inspired by your observations.
A perfect afternoon for anyone who loves drawing, nature, or simply spending time outdoors with a sketchbook in hand.
