National Tree Week runs from 22nd–30th November and marks the start of the UK tree planting season. Organised by The Tree Council, this annual celebration encourages communities, organisations, and volunteers to come together and plant trees and hedgerows across the country.

Here in Halton, we’re proud to be part of this nationwide effort alongside Mersey forest! Our team has been busy working with The Conservation Volunteers (TCV) on Wigg Island Local Nature Reserve, planting trees and laying hedgerows to enhance local biodiversity.

And there’s more, On 28th November, join us at Halebank Allotments for a hands-on community event. We’ll be re-establishing a community orchard with activities like fruit tree pruning, planting, and preparing the space for a productive season ahead. It’s a fantastic opportunity to learn new skills, meet like-minded people, and make a real difference to your local environment. This is an opportunity to get involved in the start of the orchard project and help establish the orchard at the very start. If you would like to get involved in this or any other project please contact us on park.rangers@halton.gov.uk.

I thinks this is a great opportunity for members of the local community to come together with Halton Borough council to plant trees for the future, learn new skills and learn about the management of fruit production orchards. Said Cllr Paul Nolan

Paul Nolan, Director of The Mersey Forest, said: “Every tree and hedgerow planted across Cheshire and Merseyside is helping to grow The Mersey Forest and providing more people with access to nature and the range of benefits this brings for our communities and wellbeing. Community Orchards and planting events, like those taking place in Halton, are a fantastic way for people to play their part in boosting local biodiversity, caring for local greenspaces and to meet other like-minded people. Thank you to everyone who is coming along to help.”
